Nokia 5320 Xpressmusic – modeling tutorial – PART 1

Hi, in this tutorial I will show you how to model a mobile phone. We will model a Nokia 5320. We could make an Iphone, or another new type of mobile phone, but I want to explain and show you how to create those details (button, gaps, etc.). If I will win this contest, I will make more tutorials about this phone. I will show you how to texture it and how to make a render studio. Below you have the files to download. The blueprints are included.  For this tutorial you need to know where to find “Connect”, “Extrude”, “Chamfer” and other functions. I will explain how to model it, I will not explain the interface of 3DS Max, but if you have questions, we are on the forum. By the way, the blueprint it’s not a technical blueprint, so we will not following all the lines. I will guide what and where to move the vertices or edges.  By the way, during this tutorial, in the images you will see that I am not following exactly the shape of the mobile phone, because I have to modify the blueprint while I was working on this tutorial. In the downloadable scene, the blueprints were corrected so you should follow the real lines/shape of the mobile phone.

1. Let’s start. We will start be looking in the front viewport and for the first step; we will create a plane which will cover ONLY the face of the phone. Try to not exceed the face.

2. As I said, we need to cover only the front part of the phone. Convert the plane into an editable poly, add more edges. Try to add the edges where the curve of the phone begins.



3. Now we will come back to step 1. Move the vertices, to be on the edge of the face. By the way, the edge is not the limit of the black part; the limit is a little bit to the interior. Select those 2 sides (the vertices) and use the scale to move to the interior.

4. Use the same method with the scale tool, to make the round corners. We are using the scale tool, because it will drag the vertices to the interior equally and it will be symmetric.

5.Now, using the same steps, do the same thing for the bottom part. You can also follow the images 
