3DS Max car modeling tutorial – Ford Escort MK1

111. When you will model the blinker, chamfer the corners with the same amount that you have chamfered the corners of the chromed ring. Like this, it will fit perfeclty. And by the way , do the sane thing that we did for the headlight : make 2 copies of the place (1 for the blinker’s glass, and the other one for the interior)

112. Here you have my result, my blinker ( I have also duplicated the bolts that we have made for the grill, scalled them down and use them on the blinkers too) :

112

113. Now let’s place the blinker. But first, we need to make a hole in the car’s body because it will intersect with the interior of the blinker. So, apply an inset over the polygon where the blinker should be, then delete that new formed polygon.

114. Add a row of edge as me, then select the border of the hold, drag it a little bit to the interior and chamfer the edges showed in the image. Then put the blinker there :

115. If you will check some reference images, you will notices that some models have some holes under the grill and I will do them too, because it gives a better looking to the car. It’s very simpel to make them, just select the same vertices as me , use the “chamfer” tool to split them, then delete the polygon which is formed between them :

Hi. Would really like to do this Tutorial but can’t seem to download the blueprints. Any ideas?

    Thanks

    • Solved !

Sorry , I have used the wrong path to link the text to the downloadable file :) . By the way, your nickname sounds familiar. Did you had an account on the old forum ?

      • BENNY BANASA

Yes I did ages ago found your tutorials really really helpful. Haven’t had the time to come back and do some more but this ford escort tutorial looks really cool.

        • oh, now I remember :) . Stay on tutorial-z.com, I will upload very soon the interior modeling part too :)

          • BENNY BANASA

Brilliant. I’m quite advanced on cars now but I like to find new tutorials to see if I can learn new techniques. Also interior is one thing I have not been able to model so looking forward to that. :)

          • BENNY BANASA

Also not sure if you supply them but that RAR file that you give doesn’t actually have the blueprints in the folder, it’s only the 3ds max file

          • F#@K.. well, sometimes I do things really quick and I forgot things. Give me 2 minutes to solve this

          • Can you please try again ? and if there are other problems , please let me know :)

          • BENNY BANASA

Haha it’s ok its not a problem

          • BENNY BANASA

Sorry it seems that the blueprints still don’t appear in the folder unless it’s not updated. I will try again in another 15 minutes.

          • it works now :) I just checked

          • BENNY BANASA

Yes got them now. Thank you

  • Celine

Hello! Firstly, thank you for that tutorial! Secondly, on the 4th picture page 7, how do you make the selected border straight? is it a shortcut? or do I have to move all the vertices?
    Thank you :)

    • When the edges are selected, scroll down in the modifier menu and you will find the “align” menu. Choose X,Y or Z to see which one is better for you

      • Celine

thanks, I never tried align, I will from now :) BIG thank you for the quick answer! :)

      • Beginner :D

        Hello.
I’m extremely new to this software. I cannot find that “Align”. Where is it exactly? This interface is new to me :(

  • Celine

Hi it’s me again :) from the picture 95 to the picture 96, the round for the light seems rounder, did you apply turbosmooth or sthg else? Thank you :)

    • Yes, I have applied a mesh-smooth just to see how it looks and where to place the bolts

  • Rudy

Thanks for all the tutorial, although modelling is not my interest, but it is mandatory in my school.
Your tutorials really helps me a lot in my studies, GBU :)

  • Lakitha

Image 4 in Page 14. How do you make that border?

    • Select an edge (or more) , hold the shift button and drag it to create the border. Do the same thing for all polygons from that part and don’t forget to use the “weld” tool to connect the vertices. This is the first and also the last time when I am offering support on the website. If you need support, make an account on the forum and post there. This is the purpose of the forum

      • Lakitha

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I thought you were using a shortcut to make that border. 😀

    Hi

How do you manage so many vertexes like on the wheel arches, down on the front bumpers, I always have problems to get a smooth not bumpy surface

    Thanks
